How the calculation works

Real hourly cost = annual employer cost ÷ productive hours in the year.

  1. Annual employer cost: pay, deferred pay, severance accrual, social contributions, industry funds, safety and training. Your payroll provider can give you this figure.
  2. Hours present: theoretical hours minus holidays, leave, public holidays, sick leave, training and weather stoppages.
  3. Productive hours: hours present minus time spent travelling, loading and unloading, waiting.

The full guide, with every cost item and a step-by-step example, is in the article construction worker hourly cost: how to really calculate it.

With V-Site, the hours are the real ones

The calculation is only as reliable as the hours. With V-Site workers clock in with QR code and GPS on every site, attendance records holidays, leave and sick days, and rain and heat hours come from weather data. Real hours flow into cost control: you see the labour cost of each project while work is in progress.

FAQ

Hourly cost calculation: the answers

How do you calculate a worker's hourly cost?

Divide the worker's annual employer cost by the hours actually worked and productive in the year. Dividing by theoretical contract hours underestimates the cost.

Where do I find a worker's annual employer cost?

Your payroll provider can give it to you: it includes pay, deferred pay, severance accrual, contributions, industry funds and other employer charges.

How many productive hours does a worker put in per year?

It depends on the company: from theoretical hours subtract holidays, public holidays, sick leave, training, weather stoppages and non-productive time. The most accurate way is to use real attendance recorded per site.

Is the data I enter saved?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and no data is sent or stored.
